In our weekend round-up, we focus on a curated selection of picks, for each of your six senses.
Plus a little bonus called DO GOOD. Because we believe in giving back and doing good. And there are so many great people + organizations out there, doing just that.
Miscellany.
Simple. Beautiful. Inspirational. And probably funny.
Grab a cup ‘o tea, a latte, or some other deliciousness and dig in.

What girl didn’t have a crush on Matthew Broderick after seeing him so playing hookie and skipping school with such swagger? I for one am a big fan of his. When I heard he was back on Broadway with non other than Nathan Lane (also a fave) I had to snag tickets to see them in, It’s Only A Play, which is on Broadway from now through January 4, 2015. The cast is pretty incredible — Megan Mullally, Stockard Channing, Rupert Grint (not to name drop or anything). And I have no doubt that this comedy about show biz is going to have me giggling my way down the aisles of the .Schoenfeld Theatre. If you’re going to be in NYC, I’m sure I’m accurate in saying — this is a must-see!
I discovered Sydney Hale candles at one of my favorite L.A. shops. And I’ve since become a huge fan. The family owned + operated company started in 2007 and handcrafts each of their products in small batches at their studio in Virginia. The candles are so well blended, just the right amount of fragrance and are clean burning (all are made of natural soy wax with a cotton wick). My current favorite is Tobacco + Sandlewood. The perfect mix of musky and sweet that will be burning in our home throughout the winter months. What I most love about Sydney Hale is that they give back 10% of profits to dog rescue organizations.
The songs of Lionel Richie define my youth. I remember doing dance routines in our middle school lunch room to All Night Long. I remember falling in love with a boy (from afar) in my homeroom class to Truly. I remember laughing with girlfriends with You Are playing in the background. His were the albums that you listened from first song to last (they still are). And after decades of recording + touring, he’s still at it! I’m ecstatic to say that after being a fan for more than 25 years (!!!) I got to see him live at Life is Beautiful in Vegas last weekend. Bucket list — check! Even if you can’t catch him on tour, hit up Spotify, and have a dance party in your living room. I’ll be dancing on the ceiling right along with you!
I can’t stop looking at all the Fall fashion gracing the pages of fashion magazines and blogs. I’m such a sucker for cozy sweaters, shearling, faux fur, mohair — it just feels so good to the touch. Even my cats seem to like me better when I’m wearing those fabrics! Right now I’ve got my eye on one (of the countless) gorgeous pieces from Maison Scotch by Scotch & Soda. This line just does it right. Hip, fashionable, comfortable and well-priced options that I feel like I could wear anytime day or evening. And this faux fur wonder looks like something I will live in all season long (and perfect for my NYC travels).
My guy and I have been drinking protein shakes every morning for the last few years. Instead of making an elaborate breakfast, which let’s be real, neither of us has time for, we pop some ingredients in our trusty Vitamix and in less than 3 minutes we have a healthy meal to kickstart our day. But not all protein powders are created equal. Many of them have ingredients that irritate the intestinal tract or even cause allergic reactions behind-the-scenes. After testing a number of powders, we finally found one that we LOVE. And I do mean LOVE. If I go a day without a smoothie I feel like I’m missing something. It’s healthy and truly delicious. And since it came recommended by a Doctor who knows what’s up, I feel doubly sure it’s a good one! Head to your nearest Whole Foods or Vitamin Shoppe (or check Amazon) and give Sun Warrior’s Chocolate Raw Vegan Protein powder a try.
I got my first tarot deck around the age of 12. I remember thinking it was super witchy and cool. I’ve always had a keen interest in witchcraft. It didn’t help that movies like Teen Witch, The Craft, and yes, even Practical Magic, were regularly on in our house. After flirting with tarot again in college (after a trip to New Orleans of course), I haven’t picked up a tarot card until just a week ago when I got my very first deck as an adult. An unconventional take on tarot, the Wild Unknown illustrations are absolutely stunning. I’m excited to dig a little deeper into this century old art. Check out the tarot card deck and its companion guidebook. Even if you’re not into the mystical arts, this might just make you a convert!
There’s a pretty big reason that Make-A-Wish Foundation has such a special place in my heart. You can read the story here. Needless to say, the work that Make-A-Wish is doing is adding some much needed happiness and sparkle to the lives of sick children across the country. We believe so much in what they’re doing that a portion of everything sold on The Girl Who Knows site gives back to Make-A-Wish. I hope that you’ll take a look at the work they’re doing and give back too!
