What is this ball-and-chain, you ask?
Well, before we get into that, let’s talk about the joy of quizzes.
I personally enjoy taking quizzes of all kinds. I’m such a sucker for topics like “Which decade do you really belong in?” (The 80’s), “Who’s your celebrity husband?” (Liam Neeson), and “What kind of shoe are you?” (Tom’s).
But what makes these time-wasters so great is that you’re taking a few minutes to think about your likes, dislikes, and even patterns.
That’s why I’ve come up with this quiz for you.
For better or worse, technology isn’t going away. It’s easy to get sucked into screen time, but remembering these tips will help you tame the beast like a pro:
- You’re not taking away phone time, you’re adding in efficiency, quality you-time, and productivity into your day.
- Social media is not socializing.
- Your phone is a tool. That’s it. You wouldn’t break out a hammer or wrench at any given point of the day, right? Treat your phone like a tool, and you’ll only use it when necessary.
It’s vital that we don’t limit the way we interact in the world by channeling all our attention and energy into a screen.
Our brains are not just revitalized and strengthened by experience – they are grown.
Luckily for us, experience is created through the use of our senses. By depriving ourselves of using our hands to make food, of having real eye contact with someone we like, and actually moving our bodies, we only cheat ourselves of what it means to really be in the world.
So, let’s make room for all of this by breaking free from our personal warden, shall we? And who knows? Once you say goodbye to your old jailer, those around you just might do the same.
