When was the last time you took a moment to truly acknowledge the pizzazz that your senses bring to your life?

Every day, we use our senses to experience the world, and yet we often forget to deeply appreciate them.

I think Brené Brown hit the nail on the head when she said the following in her book The Gifts of Imperfection:

In today’s culture — where our self-worth is tied to our net worth, and we base our worthiness on our level of productivity—spending time doing purposeless activities is rare. In fact, for many of us it sounds like an anxiety attack waiting to happen.”

She’s talking about it in the context of cultivating Play & Rest in our lives. And I’m piggy-backing on her statement to encourage you to cultivate Mindfulness in your life, too.

Here is Google’s definition of mindfulness:

mind·ful·ness
ˈmīn(d)f(ə)lnəs/
noun
1. the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something.
2. a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.

In order to fully appreciate the robustness of life, I believe it’s important to be aware of what’s going on around us.

So…*drumroll please*…

For 10 days, I invite you to commit to sharing an image each day of something related to your 6 senses that you are grateful for.

Embrace all of your six senses (see, smell, hear, touch, taste, feel/intuition) and look at the world with curiosity & gratitude. Consider captioning your pictures with what was impactful about the experience for you, not only to share it with others, but also to encourage you to be mindful of what exactly was impactful for you!

I’m looking forward to seeing what you post! I’ll be doing it too. You can find me at @nicolemstrack on instagram, and I’ll be using the hashtag #TGWKsensorychallenge. Let’s start a sensory revolution!
