One of the things I love about the online world is the abundance of amazing content available. I came across Becky Morquecho while reading an article, and was so impressed by her smarts + skills, that I knew she was a perfect fit for our tribe. How right I was.
Becky is the co-founder of Idealust, where she and her husband coach creative business owners, helping them create systems and mindsets that support their business (ultimately creating more ease and fun while doing the work).
I was immediately drawn to Becky’s down-to-earth writing style, her positive attitude and professionalism. She is undoubtedly the real deal my friends. A soulful sister who is doing work that matters to her, and to the world. She is living life on her own terms and inspiring others (including me) to do the same.
I’m so pleased to share this fun Q&A with you today. Enjoy getting to know the lovely and mega-talented Becky Morquecho today!
First off, it’s an honor to have you writing at The Girl Who Knows Becky! I adore what you’re up to and can’t wait to share a bit more about you with our readers, so let’s dig in, shall we? Tell us, who you are and what you do + create + love?
Awe, thanks, it’s great to chat with you and be part of this community. So, I’m originally from Wisconsin (go Pack!) and now call San Diego California home. Fun story: I met my hubs, Jesse, in South Africa, even though we both lived 10 minutes from each other in San Diego. And, we’re in the adoption process, hoping to have 1-2 Nicaraguan ninos sooner rather than later.
Professionally speaking, I believe in taking the bull by the horns. I have a God-given desire to really LIVE life, which prompted me to ignore social norms and build two successful creative businesses with my man. I really feel like my greatest accomplishment is helping others realize that they too can live out their wild ideas and dreams. It’s a deep honor to do the work I do.
I feel the same way – deeply grateful and honored to get to share stories of inspiration and hope with the world. So, I’d love to know how you decided to become a coach and do this work in the world (and ultimately be your own boss)? Why is the work you and your husband are doing, so important?
Honestly, I would’ve been a hypocrite if I didn’t do this work. Our message, what we stand for is this: We have the freedom and capability to create the lives we want for ourselves.
After having our wedding photography business for 5 years, we kept talking about things related to what we’re doing now with Idealust. It finally came time to take action, just like we advise everyone else to do!
Our work is important because we allow people to be heard. It’s a place for our coaching clients to get everything out of their heads and make something incredible of it all. We help them create the lives they desire for themselves!
I can imagine it must be super fulfilling for you both! While the work you do is rooted in helping others and having a magical business/life – I’d love to know how you stay motivated and inspired when things are feeling less than magical?
My morning routine (based off of The Miracle Morning). Yoga. Fresh air and bike rides. CrossFit. My rockstar hubby. Travel!
What is the biggest obstacle you’ve overcome since starting your business? And what helped you surmount it?
Limiting beliefs. That I am capable of doing REALLY BIG things. Yes, it might take time, but I used to think I’d do big things but wasn’t really sure what that looked like. Now, I have a plan. That plan is extremely helpful in allowing me to THINK BIG!
Who do you look up to in business? Who inspires you?
Those who have the heart + passion and are putting in the work. A lot of these people are just getting started and have been entrepreneurs for only a short amount of time. I admire them for going for it. That’s where it all starts. Also, Marie Forleo. Who doesn’t love Marie?!
Totally agree! I’m a proud B-Schooler and adore Marie! As a fellow soulful sister, I’d love to know . . . what does it mean to you, to live a life and have a business – with SOUL?
To give it everything you’ve got. To pay attention to what you need along the way. To follow through on ideas. To change lives.
Ok here’s a not-so-random question. We’re big birthday month fans around here. What’s your dream way to spend a birthday?
Fun! Me, too! Exploring somewhere I’ve never been. Soaking up the colors of a culture and sunshine. Always, sunshine.
Heck yeah – sunshine is a must! Here’s a fun one…what are 5 things you can’t live without (like ever)?
- My Klean Kanteen (full of water)
- Exercise (CrossFit, bike rides, yoga, hiking)
- Chocolate covered almond clusters
- My baby cakes (aka hubby Jesse)…these are in no particular order 😉
- A camera, even if it’s my phone
Nice. I’m with you on the chocolate almond clusters (why are they so good?!). If I were to visit your hood (San Diego), where would you send me?
- Daley Ranch for a hike
- The boardwalk in Pacific Beach for a bike ride
- Communal Coffee (coffee + flowers!!!) – I haven’t even been yet (it’s new), but I know it’s going to be incredible.
What are you working on right now that feels like a celebration?
Just got a very important chunk of paperwork out the door for our adoption.
That is so huge – congratulations! We’ll all be sending you loads of adoption love over these next weeks and months. I’m sure this time in your life has been one of tremendous growth and change. Question: if you knew then, what you know now – what message would you have for your younger self?
Life is going to have some radical ups and downs. Live them. Feel them. But when the time comes, let go of what you need to let go of in order to be free.
And finally — what is one thing you know to be true?
We have the freedom + capability to create the lives we want for ourselves.
. . . . . .
