In our weekend round-up, we focus on a curated selection of posts, for each of your six senses.
And there’s a little bonus called DO GOOD. Because we believe in giving back and doing good (and are super inspired by the people and organizations out there doing just that).

Miscellany.
Simple. Beautiful. Inspirational. And probably funny.
Grab a cup ‘o tea, a latte, or some other deliciousness and dig in.

SEE-Paris-YourNameInLights-JohnBaldessari-LosAngeles-Art-Light-Installation-Beauty-TheGirlWhoKnows
With our increasing fervor for all things Parisian, we’ve been on the prowl for what to See-Do-Hear-Taste while we’re there. We recently discovered a way to be part of the Paris experience from Afar. And you can too! Check out LA based artist John Baldessari’s Your Name In Lights installation. The coolest thing we’ve seen all week.

SMELL-MandyAftel-Aftelier-Berkeley-LosAngeles-TheGirlWhoKnows-Perfume-Scent-Natural-artisanal-signaturescent
We’ve been wanting to create a signature scent for years. And there’s only one woman we trust with the task. A master of scent and queen of artisanal, natural perfumery, Mandy Aftel. Her work has been lauded the world over. Everything she makes is of the highest quality and incredibly nuanced. A feast for your senses (and those of everyone around you).

HEAR-TheGirlWhoKnows-LifeisBeautiful-Festival-DowntownVegas-LasVegas-TonyHsieh-musicfestival-musicevents-2014
Music festivals may have become ubiquitous at this point, but nonetheless, this one has our attention. Life is Beautiful is unlike other festivals, in an unlikely location in Downtown Vegas. Backed by Zappos superstar Tony Hsieh, the 3-day festival features amazing music, inspirational speakers, curated art and a roundup of drool worthy food + chefs. And beyond the festival,  the company is a social platform designed to help people conquer their fears and chase their dreams. To find the beauty in their lives, even when it’s hard to see it. In an era of music festival overload, this is one we can get behind. We hope to see you there!

We
’ve had our eyes on the Superior Labor Engineer Shoulder Bag from the first moment we saw it in our friend’s LA shop, Baum-Kuchen. The sturdy textural canvas and beautiful leather accents make this bag feel incredible in your hand. We want to hold it 24/7. It feels so substantial (in the crowded totebag market). It’s  both a perfect weekender and a great tote-around-town bag. Leave it to the Japanese. ;)

TASTE-429popcorn-popcorn-truffles-foodie-food-snacks-TheGirlWhoKnows-SanFrancisco

Popcorn is just the simplest, easiest snack, are we right? And 479° is one of our go-to’s. Artisanal, perfectly balanced flavors  (White Cheddar + Black Truffle is our fave), beautiful packaging and made in San Francisco. Get yourself a bag (or two) of and cozy up for movie night, elevated.

FEEL-LeFawnhawk-SmudgeWands-Soul-Spirit-SpiritualTools-TheGirlWhoKnows-smudging-beauty-handmade-LosAngeles

We’re a fan of beautiful things. And when that beauty can intersect with us on a deeper level, and even add a bit of grounding, connection and soul into our lives – well, that’s like winning the lottery. We met the beautiful and mutli-talented Petecia Le Fawnhawk serendipitously (as these things tend to happen) in Downtown LA and we were smitten. She bestowed one of her stunning smudge wands upon us. It’s so gorgeous, we’ve been reluctant to even burn it. If you’re gonna purify and cleanse your space, it might as well be a beautiful process, agreed?

DOGOOD-RobinWilliams-Suicide-Depression-AFSP-havecompassion-help-yourenotalone-itgetsbetter-TheGirlWhoKnows
In light of the tragic passing of Robin Williams, and the countless others who have suffered or are currently suffering from depression and mental illness, we’re hoping that more people start to talk about the disease. We’re pretty sure there’s few among us who haven’t encountered this in our lives – either loved ones, friends or acquaintances – it’s reach is widespread. The AFSP is doing the good work to help understand and prevent suicide via their advocacy and education efforts. Click over and read more. And if you know of someone that could use help, please, reach out to them – sometimes all it takes is connecting with another human being and realizing that you’re not alone. We all have the power to save lives.
