Celebration is on our minds at The Girl Who Knows this month (happy birthday month Stephanie)! And what says party better than some golden sparkle and shimmer?

Here are my top picks for easily adding touches of gold in your life, whether it’s your birthday month or not. Go full out glimmer all by combining a few of the suggestions or choose one subtle way to shine in your own special way.

The quickest way to add some shine is with a dash of makeup. But skip the in-your-face sparkly eye shadows and bronzers for an illuminizer. It’s perfect for the upcoming warmer months where power doesn’t stay anyways. The crème-based illuminizer is a multitasking secret weapon to dab in the corner of your eye or for a quick swipe to highlight your cheekbones for a subtle glow from within look. Try RMS living luminizer or Ilia’s similar alternative in stick form.

You see your hands so often, that it makes sense that a dash of shimmery polish could make typing up that next report a bit more exciting. Steer clear of the chunky gold confetti in most metallic nail polish options and try a muted gold polish like this one from Ten Over Ten. The sophisticated shade will easily take you from work to your next celebration. And if a full hand of gold polish is still too much, try painting one nail on each hand complemented by a muted color on the rest of your fingers. This beautiful half-moon manicure is gorgeous and understated too.

I really enjoy my daily morning ritual of tea or sometimes coffee. To make the moment even more special, I use my vintage Japanese cups that have a line of gold running through them. Sitting at my kitchen table and catching glimpses of the sun reflecting off the hot cup is one of my favorite moments of the morning. Look for kitchenware like cutlery, plates, bowls, or cups with metallic accents, like this beautiful plate from Suite One Studio.

If using a little sparkle in your makeup routine is not your thing, earrings may be a great alternative. By framing your face, a touch of gold on your ears is a great way to highlight your features. Choose stud earring styles that are easy to wear that you can leave in. Most importantly, skip the plated variety for styles made from 14K or 18K gold. Not only will they keep your ear from discoloring, but also stand the test of time. Try these little studs, handmade by yours truly.

It’s common to think of lamé fabric when you think of sparkly fabric to wear. But it doesn’t have to be so. Satin or any other similar fabrics are soft, supple, and give a shimmery sheen to your outfit. If that’s too dressy, raw silks have an exquisite and unmistakable shine. For an easy way to up the shine factor in your outfits invest in a scarf like this one made of a wool-silk blend with just the right amount of barely there sequins.

The right lighting in your home can definitely add sparkle. String lights are easy to install and give a great overall glow to a room. For a more spot-on approach, find lighting that incorporates reflective elements like this swing lamp from One Forty Three. And if a new light isn’t realistic in your space, there’s nothing more sparkly than flickering candles. My recent favorite is a natural soy based one from Caen Deming.

Sometimes it’s all about the simple pleasures. A clean space workspace with a single gold pen to write with sounds like an amazing way to start a workday. These refillable pens from Ohto certainly fit the bill for being pretty and affordable. If you are feeling extra fancy or have a tendency of accumulating pens, try this brass stationary case.

Do you love gold accents? How do you weave it into your style, home, and life? We’d love to hear how you make your life feel golden, in the comments below.
